Unsure where I stand

    Hi,

Bit of a long story, but would like some feedback before heading the social welfare, thanks in advance.

I took full custody of my two young children (4 & 5 ) about 18 months ago. About 3 months ago I gave up work as I was finding both roles very demanding. So I claimed one parent family benefit.

Throughout this time I had a girlfriend, we both lived apart, she had on house, however last week we got married, and she now lives with me and children.

So I will now have to sign off one parent family, and am wondering if I can claim any type of payment? My wife works and earns cica 2300 after tax monthly, I've looked at the means tested calculated but can't make heads of it, with don't have joint accounts and lived fairly independent finance wise, I do have a mortgage in my name and don't receive any maintainence payment,

Any idea if I'd be eligible for anything and if so a rough idea would be great

    Thanks

Yes your not parenting alone any more so you will sign off one parent payment as soon as you live with your wife
Your mortgage doesn't come into it except in the sense that if you own a house or part own a house that your not living in then you will have to declare it in the means test
Leaving out the house you will be entitled to around €50 per week JSA and your wife might be better off claiming FIS

are you making sure the mother of the kids is paying maintenance?

Thanks for the reply, are you sure it would be 50 per week, with the wife earning 2300 net monthly ?

    Is she entitled to FIS
    Thanks

    No she pays nothing

Then I humbly suggest you rent a copy of Kramer vs Kramer and then tap her ass for money. One day she will come a knockin and Irish courts ultimately side with the parent of the female persuasion. Don't struggle now while she has money (even social wf).

JSA is means tested against gross wages less PRSI and pension deductions only
You cannot deduct PAYE and USC.
So I added on about €50 to your net.
I'll go and work out the FIS

No good OP. You wouldn't get JSA and then you wouldn't be getting a credit, and she would only get €50 FIS anyway

For JSA? You have to be actually seeking and available for full time work.

If you read the thread you will see that he wanted to know what paperwork connected with his wife's employment he would need to bring in order to apply for the family rate of JSA
He is already in receipt of JSA so availability for work has already been established

I'm not actually on any payment, they stopped the one parent family as I informed them I got married!! Haven't had a chancr to get to the SW office as of yet, so I'm officially on nothing!!

I'm thinking of trying to get some work, it's all very messy
