I've been quoted €25 per sq yard (ex VAT) for tiling which is labour-only (I am providing the materials).

    Does that sound about average?

    Hi there.

Depends on what part of the country you are in I suppose.
I can get decent tradesmen to tile for 18 - 20 per square metre ex vat here in Galway.

    Dublin, thanks

and it's yards, not metres... so comes out about €27.34 / sq m EX VAT

    That sound ok?

Dublin rates are going to be higher than any other county which is self explanatory! What size tiles are they, if they are small kitchen tiles, then why not pay this for a good tiler.

Is it tile flat sq walls and flat sq room or is there corners , small tiles to cut and other stuff that would slow you down. Good tradesmen are worth 1000euro and more a week.

ah right, thought there might be an average rate as there is for plumbing or electricians

indeed... I think I got more responses to this thread when it wasn't in "Prices/costs"

Why do mods insist on moving threads into obscure sub-categories that are rarely viewed?

It sounds a small but pricey to me but I not in Dublin either. Get a few different quotes and you will soon know. Did he look at the job?

If you can see their work somewhere or get a recommendation from a friend that's best.

All my mates rent so no-one pays for tradesmen work :)

If it's only a small bit pricey that's fine. If it was a LARGE bit pricey then I'd have a problem.

    Thanks

There's internal corners and external! External corners need more work!

There is no average rate for plumbers or electricsns either. Every job is different!

They have a rough hourly rate. One doesn't charge €50/hour and another comes along charging €120/hour.

Incidentally everything has an average rate. Divide total of hourly charges by number of electricians.

I know some call for 80 euro an hour, some 60 and some as dear as 100. Take your average from that.

I've got a general idea now from this thread and others that the prices range between €20-30 (allowing for a percentage higher in Dublin) so his price is prob close to the average but not outrageous.

I was quoted €40 ex vat by another guy and I reckon that's well off the mark.

The person quoting 40asq m probably has lots of work booked in and testing the water with you. If you had of bit, he'd have went to you and let the others wait. It's what happened in the boom and it's part of this captiast world we live in.
