Speaking to a mate just back from few days in UK and arrived into airport and whilst only 2 hours into day 4... The rate for his car parking in long term was for the whole day rather than a per hour rate.

Is this a common practice in all car parks or just airports??

    Anyone else come across same.

Common for long term carparks (whether in airports or elsewhere), not so much for short term.

That's the norm for any long term deal.

Surprised that people don't complain more..... Seems abit of a ripoff. In effect the customer is getting charged for a service he is not going to use!!

Not using it is the customers choice. If he's paying for the day, he's free to leave it for the day. Taking it out earlier than that is a choice. As is making use of this car park in the first place.

And if he parked in short term and arrived back 15 minutes into the hour he would be charged for the full hour, is that also a rip-off?

That's the way the pricing works. In this case he's paying a lower overall rate because he's in long-term and essentially buying in bulk. It's not their fault if he doesn't use it.

If you buy a meal in McDonalds but don't eat all of it, are they ripping you off?

You can book 3 days for €8 per day online. If they charged the short term hourly rate for his extra two hours it would be another €7.50 - hardly much cheaper than the daily rate.

They have it. You want it. They will make you pay. You agree to pay.

I'm surprised by how many people don't understand how the capitalist system and commerce works.

If they charged you short term rates for hours used on the last day as you seem to think would be but you would probably end up paying more so just be happy there are long term car 0arks available.
