Are there any things I should watch out for here?
In terms of paying rent should I do it through bank accounts or in cash?

The biggest thing is you're not a tenant. You have no rights and can be asked to leave without notice.

You will have to pay which ever way you are asked. From my experience rent a room rent is usually paid in cash as it's very easy when living with the person you pay rent to.
