Wedding party venue (Dublin)

    Hi there,

I've been living in Australia for the past number of years, and myself and my partner are getting married in Australia in April.

Most of my friends from Ireland cannot make it, but would like to host a celebration (not another wedding) but more of a party.

I have no idea about places in Dublin, but ideally we just really have an afters ceremony
DJ, finger food and a late bar.

But I am wondering is there anything else I would need to provide.

I could be in the wrong forum, but hoping for some venue ideas, and cost?
(Is it possible to bring wine and pay for corkage?)

    Cheers

I might be wrong be wrong but I believe the lovely folks at the chocolate factory will let you host a wedding celebration without paying wine corkage http://www.chocolatefactory.ie/events/

It's a bit DIY so it might not be the space for everyone but I think it's a stunning venue, very different and industrial

Here's a wedding that took place there for a little inspo: http://onefabday.com/ie/alternative-chocolate-factory-dublin-wedding/?redirect=1

I've heard terrible things about the professionalism of the guys in the Chocolate Factory tbh. When you say " a bit DIY" it's more like they leave you entirely to your own devices and will turn up to let you in to decorate, etc whenever they fancy it. Still you seem like you have a different experience so fair enough.

There's a lot of places that will fill your requirements, OP. Anywhere that does parties in general (21sts etc) will do you a DJ, finger food, late bar kinda thing. What sort of venue were you thinking?

Thanks guys, although it's great BYO, but I simply don't have any time to have a DIY reception, so looks like chocolate factory is out.

    Baby and crumble:
The sort of venue I'm looking for is just somewhere nice, decor and atmosphere, ideally they'll be able to make a good cocktail (old fashioned, not just throw ingredients in a glass and stir)
A friend of mine suggested Bridge 1859, oscars etc

It certainly will be more of a party than a wedding, as herself will probably wear a white dress, as opposed to her wedding dress.

How many people are you thinking? The bridge is lovely but small enough, they do fantastic finger food!

    Check out http://drurybuildings.com

I was at an afters there recently and it was really nice. Had whole floor reserved and DJ played with some fish and chip cones too.

Yeah we probably need to know more about your numbers etc to help us narrow down.

One place that came to mind (but could be wrong) is the Union in Mount Merrion, so granted its not exactly in town. I know they run cocktail making classes there so should be able to put together some decent drinks and they also have a private function room upstairs which is really lovely.

Location might be wrong but is this the right type of venue?

I will always put in a punt for House on Leeson St., the cocktails are perfect and the downstairs venue has full bar, dancefloor etc but I don't know what they're like for party food.

You could also try The Morrison- I'm having my full wedding there later this year but they have been really wonderful to work with so I'm sure they'd be flexible enough for just an afters or whatever. Their cocktail menu is amazing too (best Old Fashioned available in Dublin if you ask me) and their evening food is gorgeous.

Thanks guys, I did a quick numbers check, I would say I will invite 70 overall
so maybe 40-60 will turn up, really I have no idea, how many will turn up
I haven't sent any invites, just told a few I would have a party in ireland

    Cheers

As mentioned Drury Buildings is suitable, also try the Trinity Capital and the Clarence are other good options.
