Access to family grave

    Hi
First time poster so hope I'm in the right section - please re direct me if needed.
Would anyone know how I find out who has right of access to a family burial plot?
Brief overview is that family has had a large plot for some years - there is space for 2 more people to be buried there. However one family member (by marriage) is insisting one of the spaces is hers - without any discussion with other members of the family. This is causing upset as you can imagine - but before it blows sky high it would be good to know how to find out the actual legalities of things and work from there as it is likely to get highly emotive!
    Any guidance would be welcome.
    Thank you

You could try asking the operators of the cemetery. Whoever purchased the plot originally would have control over who is buried there. the plot is an asset that can be willed so the original owner may not be the current owner.

As said, the burial plot is an asset like any other. Whoever owns the plot has final say on who may be buried there.
