hi im thinking of trying to clear an old laneway through a forest that is covered in heather.. is there any laws against doing it and whats the best way to do it.. would spraying it work or would a digger be the job to scrape it off.. its been done to allow access to the rear of the forest to aid extraction of deer by means of a jeep.. the lenght of it is about 250 metres

Thought you were being followed by a girl called Heather.

Spraying can result in a slow die off of Heather & in a lot of cases it can fail completely esp where Heather is long established & woody. If spray works the by product is a tinder box waiting for a match .We had similar mixed results with Furze .If it was me , i would not spray .
Removal by digger would be much quicker ( no waiting for weeks & perhaps having to spray a second time ) Can be done when plants are dormant ( Winter ) There is physical removal of the plants & a Fire Hazard is also removed form the site.

Would you not just leave the heather and travel over it, if you scrape it of you'll be left with a mess unless you get stone down?

its to high to drive over and certain areas has furs that will need to be removed by either the digger or chainsaw
