Ok so im looking to upgrade my vinyl setup

I'm currently using this ball of sh1te

    http://www.clasohlson.com/medias/sys_master/9149257908254.jpg

It was grand when I had cheap old records but I've been getting more and more higher end vinyls and I fear this player is damaging them

So I'm going to go for a decent setup. I have about €600-€900 to spend. I'm not looking for anything audiophile worthy but just something with a decent sound that won't damage my stuff. Also looking to have something that looks good as this will take pride in my living room

I was looking at this Roland

    https://m.thomann.de/ie/roland_tt_99.htm?o=6&search=1483108261

Mostly because I love the look of it and that's as far as I got.

I don't know anything about these setups or even what to look for so I was hoping someone here could help me out with a selection for a player, amp and speakers. Any help is greatly appreciated

    Thanks a million

Have a look at Richer Sounds, they have an active forum here on boards and John Mc and the team are very helpful with advice. The shop is in Belfast, but they deliver down south regularly.

    That's an insult to sh1te !

It almost definitely is damaging them !

Looks like a DJ turntable, probably ok-ish but personally I don't think it's very nice looking unless you're going for the nightclub look ?

Have a look here. Some very nice looking turntables that should also sound decent enough too for less than the Roland.

As for amp and speakers, do you want surround or straight stereo ? Floor standing or bookshelf ?

Thanks for the advice Ken, I'm also in the market for a turntable so this is very helpful. I was also wondering, a friend of mine swears by having a pre-amp as well, but I'm not really sure if it's all that worth it. What do you reckon?

It pretty much depends on the other components in your system, a good preamp can open up a good amplifier and speakers and give new life to your vinyl.

You get what you pay for though, some cheap preamps are sonically very poor when compared to the phono stages of some good amplifiers.

If you're just starting out then spend your money on getting the basics right. Good speakers, a good amplifier that you like the sound of and a decent turntable, tonearm and cartridge is the best place to start. A preamp better than the built-in phono stage in a good amplifier will cost over 200 euro, sky's the limit after that !

In essence, don't waste money on something you don't know you need yet.
