Room to room ventilation

    Hi all,
I'm looking for the best way to do room to room ventilation and air movement.
Because of cat we keep the doors in our rooms closed and unfortunately this stops air from circulating around the house.
I'm building a small house automation project and as a starting point I've decided to build IoT measuring unit first that I'll put in all rooms. The first unit been measuring main bedroom for a week now and I can clearly see CO2 buildup overnight(see picture attached).

The house was built during the boom and each room has a hole in a wall. Obviously it is not sufficient to keep the air quality when the doors are closed.
Now I was wondering if I've placed passive vents above doors in the rooms would it improve air quality and allow the air to circulate in the house?
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Yes it will, assuming all the vents are working but one issue with passive vents is increased internal noise transmission in the house.
    Is house 2 storey?

The more we know about te structure we might shed better quality light on the possible solutions

    It is 3 store house.
The long term goal is to build active ventilation with in room HRV units in the current holes but my understanding is that I still need vents as the air won't be moving due to pressure when the doors are closed.
Would there be much noise due to vents? The house already has paper thin walls between rooms.

Thanks, so as well as the cat you have fire reg issues to keep the doors closed!

Is the bedroom on 3rd floor?

    Have u accessible attic space?

Am not a fan, pun intended, of in room HRV units for two reasons
One is fan noise at 3am
Also there is very limited air circulation in the room as all they do is suck air out for maybe 40 seconds and then reverse the flow and blow fresh air in from outside across the heat exchanger so its tough to get good in-room air circulation.

The bedrooms are on the 2 floor.
I've planning on making HRV myself and sync them together between the rooms so that when one side of the house is sucking in the air the other side is pushing out and then in reverse. Also I would hook the current sensors to HRV so they constantly monitor and adjust to requirements.

    Update:
There is a attic space but putting single HRV unit would be complicated as I see no way for ducts reaching ground floor without striping half of the house.

OP, off topic, but what IoT devices are you using? Some raspberry pi's / arduino? Or some more proprietary?

It still wont improve things unless it actually functions like forced ventilation because medium in heat exchangers in the wall units will not have enough heat capacity to do what you have in mind.

In a proper HRV system the extracted heat is passed to the incoming air so there is no need to retain heat in any medium.

Am not suggesting a full HRV, a three storey house has the benefit of being amenable to some natural stack ventilation.

On reflection the passive internal wall vents may actual breach the fire regs... not my area of expertise.

    esp8266 used with Arduino IDE.
If you know Arduino then you'll have no troubles using it. It's arduino on steroids :)

BTW: is there a group on boards that discusses these type of things?

    OK.
Any recommendations then how to improve air quality in the room? I'm running out of ideas...

With HRV, no, without HRV, then just get a CO2 sensor wired up to a wall fan.
I will PM u a link to some guys in this space
