So how was it for you really. In fairness all wasn't too bad till the crash. Gonna be left with a lifelong reminder I'd say. Had my worst year for cattle prices so far but my cattle preformed excellently so I least I know I'm doing something right (or its the louth cattle). Overall I'd class it was a draw for me or maybe a bit of a negative

Bad start to the year weather wise but when May came its probably been one of the best since, on the financial side its our worst year up to probably September it looked very bleak but a ok end to the year will probably see us come close to breaking even but another year like this in 2017 with milk prices so low and you,d have to wonder is it worth the stress in the hope of a "good" year. But I suppose main thing is health is good so everything else is irrelevant.

money wise not great, although stock numbers presently are at record highs so might help the balance sheet a little.

health wise not too bad although o/h went through a couple of rough spells,

all the family continue to make progress in their own fields,

I'm not a great one for looking back tbh, I always try to live in the present & savvy the moment, days, years etc, really don't matter to me

Got out of milking this year and its probably been one of my most difficult farming years yet.
I am optimistic about the future though even if Im not entirely sure of the direction it will take me.

Just another year really, nothing happened here to make it either good or bad. Got the land changed over to my name from the fathers which was a drawn out expensive enough sort of affair. Need to get the herd number, stock and entitlements switched now aswell that the last of the payments have come. Not really looking forward to this year, basically starting out on my own with none of the working capital for the farm. Going to be at tight 10 months until next October!

Have the place 90% of where I want it paddocks/fencing water troughs.
Only prob was scutter prices for cattle live trade and factory prices.

With the boss man passing it has been a tough year especially on my OH. It is still raw and will be for a good while yet.
Stock wise prices were back but weights were up which evened the field a bit. Was a lot happier with the money i got for cattle in August than i got in April even though price had fallen, the summer grazing with the plainish stock I keep put on plenty of weight which helped.
Grass wise was the most satisifying part of year. Was never without and could afford to take some bales from grazing paddocks. Delighted to see the massive benifit of new grass compared to older ground and will continue with reseeding in 2017. Work wise was on par with 2015 with a more even spread of work which kept us going steady out all yr. Sport wise was personally very satisfying and if we can improve by another 10% we wont be far off joining the big boys in senior.
If my first point can improve and i see more smiles and the last point is achieved everything inbetween will sort itself out.

Farmwise got locked up with TB which took 3 of my best young cows. Got clear and bought in 6. 5 Are exceptionally quiet, a lot 5 stars. So we're back on track.
Dealing with a lot of serious family and legal crap that anyone in their right mind would just walk away from. So 2016 could have been better but at least not as bad as 2015.

Got out of cows last year too. Very happy with my decision so far. No comparison lifestyle wise but financially is a lot more challenging with drystock.

Although prices were rocky when I offloaded my summer stock 2016 was a good year as I further pushed my strategy of minimising costs and financial exposure in stock and maximised payments and subsidy

A complete fcuk of a year.
Health worse early on and then worse again later on.
Price for milk etc was bad
A few unforseen expenses not help.
Few more cows not in calf than I'd like.

Can't honestly think of any good things that have happened except that I'm still alive and I haven't been banned from here.

Got locked up with tb mid year and only came clear in november. Had to cull cows and sell weanlings way below cost but still came out just about right hitting 2017!with no real debt to talk of but it's down to the job that I'm in that situation. I've a better sort of stock starting off and I'm hoping to improve another bit this year.
