In the process of buying a 188 and want to know what the top speed would be? Have been told they'll do 35kph and the multi power ones will do 40kph! Just wondering is this true?

AFAIK won't find any that will do 40k unless on oversize tyres or the likes. Most of those from that era were limited to around 30 or 35k regardless of transmission type.

    An 8 speed (non multi) 188 , on either 12 x38s , or 14 x 34s , will do in the region of 18 or 19 mph. A multi might manage 4 or 5 mph more, 22 or 23 mph , at a stretch.

An odd one was on 18.4 x 30s , you could knock off a couple of mph for them.

mine are gona be on 16.9x34 so! Is there anyways I could get her up to 21/22mph? I haven't lifted her yet so! It says 24mph on the clock? Is it a good tractor? Gripping wise what would it be like

Sounds like you need a car more than a tractor :)

As 5600 has said a multi power 188 on your wheels will do 22 or 23. Neighbor has one and it's lively alright. They're a good tractor mechanically but wouldn't have great traction even with weighted rims on the back. Sometimes the 248 engines in them can be hard enough started. The 236 in the 168 are much better to start.

I was thinking of turboing her! I have an lorry turbo there sitting on an old rust bucket of a man but she still start on the button! Would the engine stand the extra pressure of the turbo? Sorry for so many questions just want to see how I can make her that little bit different! How much would one be worth her with the original canvas cab and pretty low hours and in half decent shape no serious rust or anything

If it's in good original condition with low hours the fastest way you will devalue it is by sticking on stuff that they didn't have leaving the factory.

What you could do to make it stand out is make sure everything is present and correct I.e. Weighted rims, front weights, ploughing lamps, mirrors etc. There's nothing worse than looking at a tarted up tractor that had potential to be a very nice example.
What part of the country are you in?

We have both standard 8 speed box and multi-power 188's and I would say the max speed is about 17/18 MPH max, we have a MF 290 and I would say that it does about 21/22 MPH
    All tractors have 16.9R34 wheels

A good clean MF 188 making anything from €4000- €7000

OK, I stopped reading this after the word "turboing" was mentioned. However it is heartening to know that there still some "original thinkers" amongst our youth today! :)

Hard to know without seeing. Throw up a photo of it.
