Taking up rugby at 19?

I'm 19, in College and I want to take up Rugby.
I've played underage (u8 to u14s) but nothing proper.
I'm a small enough lad standing at 5'8 and not very fit at the moment. But I am very quick.

At this age group it's competitive. I feel like if I start I'll be lost, not to mention I'm in college 5 some times 6 days out of the week so joining a club back home won't be feesable.

Is it worth taking it up?

What college? Might be best finding a club nearby an getting in at the J5 level.

I took it up at 35 so you're not exactly past it yet :D

Never too old, one brother in law of mine took it up in aus on his 50th birthday.
Other brother in law started around 24/25 with the '3rds', captained the 1st 15 at senior level 3 years later and went on to play for around 8-10 years as 1st choice lock,
I played under age, quit around 18, went back around 29 for a few seasons and then stopped again, it can be as serious or as fun as you want.
Has the college a club? Often they can field a number of teams at different levels..

How did that go ? I've played in my early 20s for a bit but had to give up due to work. I'm 34 now but there's life in me yet.

Our 'bag man' is in his late 60's, he used to still come on and play back row for last
20 mins if we were short numbers or subs which can happen regularily enough down the grades with the team usually consisting of fellas still drunk from night before and kidnapped from the club house bar to play a game...

You have played the sport which will help and you have played at 15 a side and full pitch which will help
If you're quick then it will be great boost, I wouldnt worry about only being 5'8
    Where are you in college?

Wont be many areas with clubs at that level. In most it will be J2 as the lowest level... maybe j3.

I'm in NUIG, I'm good friends with a lot of the Connaught Rugby lads and they've been saying I should play.

Play with NUIG. They have an under 20s team which is 20.5s ie born after 1/7/96 to play.
University also has a junior 1 and junior 2 team competing in Connacht junior 1/2 leagues

Don't die wondering my friend. If it's in your head give it a go.

There is practically no age, size or fitness where its not possible to play rugby. If you're starting from the very bottom then join a club which has a good few teams. The bottom team will prpobably be struggling for 15 some weeks so you'll always have a shot at a game. Get your fitness and skills up and away you go.

Doesn't matter how small you are as long as you can tackle properly the right way without getting injured. I played club rugby in New Zealand playing in the U21 grade when I was 17 years old. I played preseason games for my High School 1st XV but would not have been a starter, so  I decided to play club rugby instead with guys that were out of school for 2 years or more. All this and I was 5ft 9 and 58kgs but I was quick and could tackle.
