I bought some land away from home and I want to keep cattle there. As the land is in a different county and Dvo can I use my original herd number or do I need a second one. I will probably house cattle on both farms but will move during year for calving etc

Yes, you use the same herd number. You will need to contact your local DVO (the one where your principal farm is based, i.e. your original one) and let them know that you have bought land in the "townland" of ???? in County X.
I think that you are supposed to have crush/pen facilities on the new land but that maybe only if you are going to test part of the herd there.

Yes, farming across a county boarder 30km apart and no problem. I didn't inform anyone.

Reason for informing DVO is if a neighbour adjoining your outfarm has a breakdown/retains a PI etc then the Dept knows who's livestock are next door, iykwim.

    Co Co

If the yard looks dodgey or high risk of pollution, council don't need an informer to trigger an inspection......is there a farmyard on the farm you're referring to.

At what time of the year did you have the local authority inspection.

Jan and we hadn't moved any stock to it at the time. It was their chance to fire a shot and get place cleaned up.

That's my last post re inspection.

Herd number can be used in 2 or more counties

A couple of neighbours here complaining about CC inspections would have good reason to be inspected..........CC are usually helpfull and wouldn't be trigger happy, in this county anyway

A lot of the local authority inspections are result of water sampling highlighting pollution and in fairness I have no problem with this when we try to keep compliant and other guys think the river or water course is a handy way to get rid of slurry.
