Really odd issue with Xbox one elite controller and mic

Cannot figure this out. Have an elite XBO controller. Works fine. Bought an unofficial wired chat mic. 5 seconds after plugging it in the controllers, the left stick goes haywire registering inputs. Wow strange one, you check for firmware updates? Also do that with the headset connected if you can.

Sounds like a short inside the controller. Bring it back if you can, as that's definitely not normal.
