Looking for a free app to play DVD's on Windows10?

Bought a new Windows 10 laptop.

Got a few boxsets for Christmas. All settled down to watch one, stuck DVD in and nothing happened, only to now find out Windows 10 have done away with the old familiar Media Player.

There seems to be an App in the Windows Store but it's about €12 and frankly I don't feel like I should have to pay that.

Downloaded some software for free, it's OK but not great, it's called VLC Media Player, has a symbol of a small orange & white striped cone.

Anyone able to recommend anything that's good & free and safe to use.

    Thank you.

VLC media player will play the DVD. Right click on the DVD drive in Windows Explorer and select Play with VLC Media Player.

You can access Windows Explorer by holding down the Windows and E keys at the same time.

Yes, sorry I know they will play with VLC, I just don't think it's great quality and I was wondering if there was anything better than VLC that I don't know about.

It's a DVD, the quality is brutal to start with.

What site did you download it from?

Have no idea! Wasl losing the will to live, googled the problem, found a link where VLC was recommended. It's fine, just was wondering was there something better. Downloaded realplayer there to see if it's any better.

Never heard of this, have you tried it?

Well that was quick, RealPlayer is s***, covered in ads.

VLC is as good as it gets for a media player. If the quite onscreen is poor that would be down to the dvd rather than the software playing it.

Use either VLC or MPC-HC. There really is no better players than these. Personally I prefer MPC.

Comes bundled with the Klite codec pack. I've used it for years.

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/index.html is the official site, but there are many bogus sites who will give you links that may end up filling your PC with crap.

Check if the version is Version 2.2.4

Oh, and if you have gotten it from another site, I'd advise you to uninstall it, and then get MalwareBytes and run a scan.
