Just wondering if anybody here has experience owning or driving a Subaru Legacy Estate? The one I'm looking at is a 2007 4wd version with a 2.0 petrol engine. not dissimilar to this one:

I know they can be very thirsy so I would be thinking of in the long run getting a gas conversion done, although I'm not sure that the Boxer engine is agreeable with LPG.

I had one of the previous generation. About 25 mpg. Was a private import from the USA, ex US postal service, so RHD. That model was built in Subaru's plant in Indiana. Never had a single thing go wrong with it in 20,000 miles, just the 1000 euro tax and fuel consumption got to me eventually.

That car advertised is probably 3000 euro dearer than most would pay.

There are two known issues with that model legacy.

    1. DMF can give trouble in them. They tend to squeal when taking off in first, i don't think it actually does any harm and I know someone who has been driving his for the last 3 years with it squealing and no adverse effects. If you do have the problem and decide to tackle it then the best thing to do is convert it to a solid flywheel from an Impreza and use the Impreza clutch.

    2. The engine can develop a hesitation upon acceleration at times. It's a software issue and Subaru are aware of it however there is no cure for it. It's not very common but can happen however is not something to worry about.

They're a very reliable car and will give years of service. Economy : they'll do low 30's on short journeys and closer to 40 on long runs.

    Thanks for the feedback.

Are they actually an enjoyable car to own and drive? Or just a work horse??

They're a lovely car to drive. Very solid on the road, comfortable and reasonably fast (168bhp) for quite a large car.
