Is this model OBD II compatible. I bought a cheap scanner on Amazon out of interests sake. I know the car has a 17 pin diagnostic connector instead of the normal 16 pin on the scanner but there seems to be adapters available on Amazon. Googling it does not give a conclusive answer.

Far as I know there might be a diagnostics box attached to the passenger side strut tower. We had a later 1.6 and it was OBD-II If I remember right, but the 99 1.5 we had didn't have regular OBD plug. You can get codes from the diagnostics box under the bonnet by wiring a bulb between 2 terminals and decoding.

Sounds about right colm, going on my experience of a 99 626 that did not have a obdII port inside the cabin but had some other diagnostics port in a box under the bonnet.
