Blind Control

I'm looking at adding some new home automation equipment to the house in the new year.

I'd love to be able to add blind control. Only looking to control 4 blinds but I'm struggling to find a solution. Ideally I would like to integrate with something like the Harmony Ultimate remote.

It looks like Lutron offer the best integration. Does anyone know of any Lutron suppliers in Ireland?

    Thanks!

Hi Shane, what blinds do you have and how are they currently opened/closed?

They make light dimmers and some of the electrical wholesalers use to stocm them.

Just manual roller blinds at the moment.

    Somfy might be another option...

Blinds are further down my to do list but any option with a remote should allow the harmony to learn it.

I've been investigating this recently, many of the motorised blinds use a 433Mhz remote control. Not sure the harmony supports it.

Did Teptron release a non-bluetooth option yet?

I was quite tempted to try them before I realised they were bluetooth only, half the automations you'd reasonably be looking for wouldn't be possible outside bluetooth range.

There were talks of a z-wave version.

BLE (Bluetooth low energy) has a good range

Would that range stretch to the Balearics? :D

One of the reasons we were looking at motorised blinds was security when we're away from the house.

The downsides to any BLE home automation products is they only work in the home and you need another device/app to control them.

Many devices such as Amazon Echo, Apple TV Gen 4 etc all have Bluetooth that lets you send commands

Out of the box functionality to support Teptron or are you referring to building something?

Harmony Hub supports Bluetooth. I'm not sure these have been integrated, you would have to double check.

I think the timeline for Zwave models is march so wait another bit.

If you cant wait you could still do automation timelines with the bluetooth version if that suited. The settings are saved in the MOVE so don't need the phone to initiate open or close.
