I am always wondering if fixed speed cameras work at night? I know the movable camera vans could take pictures at night with a flash. How about those fixed ones?

They do work at night, but lucky for you, there aren't any fixed speed cameras in Ireland.

    Mobile speed camera, Yes
    Average speed camera, Yes
    Fixed speed camera, No

Really? No fixed camera? Then what's the camera sign for on the roads?

And what's the use of average speed camera? Is that same as those screens displaying your speed when you enter a town?

    Thanks a mill

Average speed is in UK and north it gets an average speed between 2 points if you are too quick boom fine.

The signs have been put in place to show go safe zones. And a few extra.

Yes, and of course Gardai with radars and Garda cars driving around themselves.

They had average speed checks on the m11 roadworks a few months back iirc. First time I'd seen it in Ireland.

Its in the port tunnel also. M11 not sure didn't see it myself.

I was just mentioning been in UK years but sure it will be more common here.

The go safe vans are a joke as they don't catch dangerous drivers only those a few ks over.

Why can't vans catch someone driving 150 kmph?

It'll give you almost all the info you need.

There is also a mega thread on speed vans. Also worth a read.
