Xbox live hogging the speed

Hi, this will be a painful one because I don't know anything about this stuff so please bare with me. If this isn't the correct forum please move it.

We have Vodafone Fibre Optic Broadband, we get around 38 - 42 mbps, which is grand for just the two of us but when I play on Xbox Live my partner can't use the internet at all which in turn means I can't play online because she won't stop giving out about it.

It seems like a first come first served Wi-Fi, if my partner is watching Netflix on her phone then I can't use the internet for anything

Please, what can we do? We just have the Vodafone modem, they gave us a replacement one when I told them about this but it didn't make any difference, it was the same with the PS4.

    Thanks in advance

Sounds like there are some very aggressive "quality of service" settings active on the Vodafone modem.

If you can login to the Vodafone control panel via web browser (IP address of modem) and with turning that off it might resolve the problem, look around for QoS and set it to disabled.

The default login details for modem is usually on back of the device or someone who is familiar with vodafone can say if it's not there, vodafone have their own forums as well.

    To get the IP
    * In Windows (10) go to settings
    * go to network & internet
    * view your network properties
    * look for default gateway and the numbers which are that is the IP of the modem

So for example you would type in 192.168.1.3 into the web browser address bar, press enter and it would bring you to the modem control panel were you put in the login details.

I dont think its QoS, other providers rebadge the same Huawei unit and I've never seen that behaviour.

@PurpleStar - Connect your consoles with an ethernet cable (even just awkwardly to test) and play while trying to watch netflix. See how it runs. Should be instantly apparent if its working properly then.

    Hi,

I disabled the QoS and so far it's a hell of a lot better. We had the Android Box, Xbox live, YouTube, Netflix all going at the same time and everything worked. It's amazing. I know it's only been a few hours but so far so good.

    Thanks so much

    Hi,

I tried this before and it didn't make any difference.

Thanks for your advice though, I appreciate it
