Buying a car without license driving

    Hey,

Quick question, I've applied to exchange my EU license to ROI one.
Beside this I'm looking on buying a car but the problem is as mentioned above, the driving licence is not done yet so I'll need to wait a while for it (it takes up to 3 months). I found this car and the offer sounds to be good one, now I don't know if I'm allowed to buy the car and hold it without insurance and Nct/tax till my license will be sent by NDLS.
Please advise, if you guys faced something similar.

    Thanks,
    Alex

They take months to transfer an EU license to an Irish one?

I had to transfer my Irish one to another EU country a few years ago and I don't recall being without a license for even a single day.

If it really takes months in Ireland, I would file a complaint with SOLVIT and see if it takes you anywhere:

Yes, unfortunately that's on the NDLS website. So just waiting now.

Ridiculous and unacceptable. To be without your license for any period of time is unacceptable. This is something they should be doing in a single day, not 3 months!!!

You are allowed own a car without the licence as long long as you don't drive it in a public. If you do but it and are not putting it on the road for a few months go to the gaurds and get it declared off the road. If you don't when it comes to racing it you will have to back pay to the month you owned it from.

You will also have to think about how you will get it from the previous owners to you when you but it.

If you do but buy it and are not putting it on the road for a few months go to the gaurds www.motortax.ie as soon as the car is registered to you and get it declared off the road. If you don't when it comes to racing taxing it you will have to back pay to the month you owned it from.

You will also have to think about how you will get it from the previous owners to you when you but it.

To get it to your place:

    * Get the owner to drive it
    * Get a friend to drive it
    * Get it towed

If the car is to be parked on a public road, it needs to have tax and insurance...but often people ignore this.

I'm confused. OP has an EU license and is therefore entitled to drive. The only problem is that he can't comply with the law requiring him to produce it if stopped.

Is there no receipt NDLS can issue to allow him to drive while they have it?
