Aer Lingus wifi?

Flying to Chicago on Tuesday and wondering is the WiFi any good for streaming Netflix and maybe watching the football. Looking online and can't find any details on quality.

You're not supposed to stream on the WiFi, I doubt it even allows you. Keep in mind there will be several others on the WiFi too all using the one connection.

Didn't realize streaming wasn't allowed. Thought in this day and age streaming goes hand in hand with having WiFi. Might just keep my €15 euro so. Thanks.

Have you ever been on a Bus or Train? Streaming blocked on those too.

Yes. I stream perfectly fine on Dublin bus.

Strictly for emails and light internet. Streaming is blocked. Really not worth the price. Free for business class I believe. Entertainment on board is actually ok. Plenty of music and films.

Your in a metal tube cruising at 38000ft over what is a predominantly ocean trip. You'll be lucky be get 3mbit/sec shared with everyone in the cabin.

You can download stuff from Netflix on your tablet now. So just cue up a series you want to watch and off you go.

I use the wifi regularly. It can be hit and miss but when it works it's fantastic. I've watched YouTube videos on it

In my view well worth the price. Passes the time really well either using it on a laptop, tablet or mobile.

As for streaming it's not allowed.

On a side note Iarnrod Eireann have recently introduced a limit of 300mb per user session after they found several cases of users downloading over 1gb of data on trains between Dublin and Cork.

I used google hangouts to video call my Dad on a DUB-ORD flight last year.

Little bit of break up, but it worked fairly well.

Yes would be the answer. Faceman has posted on boards from inflight on a couple of occasions.

My missus has shown me a few occasions over the last year or two of the EI social media team posting on instagram and twitter from inflight on certain special flights.

flew over and back to san Francisco on aer lingus last week. the wifi is a total rip off

max limit is 240mb so when laptop was sitting completely idle the bandwidth consumption was ticking by, had all program closed and streaming etc switched off but by just looking at FB news feed you could easily consume the full 240mb in around 20-30 minutes

United airlines is way better as it is unlimited

Yup I'd rather be left unconscious and have unlimited wifi than be limited to 240Mb :pac:

Protip: turn off autoplay videos on FB/Twitter, makes your experience of those services much much better .

240mb is ridiculously low though. With the cost of the WiFi, 240mb will get you nowhere.

Why would them telling you the price and the limits not make it an issue?

If I tell you that you can have a very small cup of tea for €10, that shouldn't be an issue because I told you beforehand? Strange point.

It's an issue because very little can be achieved with 240mb. Anything past checking emails or plain Facebook feed (or maybe using boards for a few minutes) is impossible, especially nowadays due to high bandwidth ads using up alot of data.

it's not an issue because you can decide whether you want to buy it or not, it's really simple. It really doesn't matter what you can or can't do with the service. If they tell you it's $xx.xx for 240Mb and you get 240Mb then they provided their end of the contract. It's not their fault if the sites you frequent are bandwidth hogging, there's plenty of tools for both Windows/Mac/Linux that you can install to limit apps hogging bandwidth.

Yes you can do that, and you don't have to pay for it of course, it's quite clear I'm not disputing that.

Doesn't excuse my point though, 240mb is very very little for the price, especially considering what some other carriers offer.

I can't help but think that if we were talking about some other carrier other than Aer Lingus, my point would be accepted!
