I bought a ham in Aldi (smoked horseshoe ham.. doesn't say that it's dressed so I presume it's just plain but smoked) this morning to cook for my inlaws tomorrow (they asked me to do ham.. everyone coming is doing something as they have a tiny kitchen)
Anyhow, I've never cooked a big ham before (the one I got is 2.5 kilos) and the ones my own mum cooked she always boiled.. but this one says just to just cook it in electric oven (no boiling, skimming fat off etc)
    Does that sound right?
There isn't that much fat on it either, so I wonder would it be daft to baste it in cider while cooking (and cloves and stuff)
I wish I went to the butcher now :)

I got a ham in Lidl... simmered in cider for about 3 hours... then covered it in maple syrup, marmalade and sugar and put into the oven for an hour... it's cold now and delicious!

I just drooled reading that. Then I looked at my sad ham boiling since July in plain ole H2O
    Such is life.

Boil it in cola, cheaper than cider and comes out amazing. Pop it in the oven then with whatever glaze you choose. Boil it for an hour per kilo and a few minutes over
