    Are Roma gypsies harming us.
They evict tenants, rob houses empty and owners have to demolish in order to keep them out. They steal parts and diesel from vans.
If one of em see a skip they arrive within minutes with their fleet of vans and they rob the skip and houses near the skip. Owners home. They steal phones from the que of homeless at the souprun at the G.P.O. and when the bags of clothes are brought out by volunteers the Roma gypsy women form a line not letting in any homeless and they fill up five or six bags each. They bring it around the corner and come back with new bags. They repeat this until nearly all clothes ate gone. A van arrives around the corner and they fill it. The van drives off and they come back with more bags and fill these before they walk home. The homeless are left with no warm clothes or blankets or sleeping bags and some have no phone. The rule is 3 items each but gardai do nothing as it is a hand out.

Have you had a bad run in with some Romanians OP? You're post sounds a little bitter. Now I know there is a criminal element within the Romanian Gypsies population here in Ireland, but you make them all out to be robbing bastards, ready at any moment to take the eyes out of your head if they were worth something.

I know a few Romanians and none of them are Gypsies and they're the soundest bunch I know. I just think you've run a foul of a bad bunch, which isn't true for all of them.

In fairness, how do they rob skips? If I throw something in a skip I don't really care if someone comes along and takes it.

    Roma =/= Romanian.

Roma gypsies may be of romanian nationality or romanian passport holders but most of these would not self identify as "romanian"

Have to say I agree with you OP there aren't too many good ones among them. The majority are criminals.

I also know a few Romanian people here in Ireland. They work their ass off. They also go mad at these people being labelled "Romanian" and have no time for them.

There are a lot of Roma scammers, squatting, robbing hovering at atn's and doing everything that the OP said. I saw two women coming out of Dunne's with steam rising coming out from under the big skirts. The security guard stopped them and it turned out to be a hot cooked chicken they had stolen. It was hilarious ...chancers.

Another time they tried to surround me on the lucas to steal my purse. I told them to fck right off.

My sister runs a small shop and they tried to rob the place blind, about 30 of them. Also tried to scam money, counting out notes.

I have had many good experiences with Romanian people but none whatsoever with Roma.

    No tolerance for them personally.

We've been robbed blind and lied to by white native-born Irishmen in expensive suits, in government, in banks, in the EU.

And it's Roma gypsies that are harming our future?

    You can't cure stupid.

It is quite literally their culture.

Very accurate post, and one which is very relevant to the current "Big Issue" of homelessness.

It is very apparent that the Roma issue surfaces in waves,as,being Nomadic, they tend to follow the money, throughout their patch, which they regard as very broad indeed.

The issues, accurately described by Lass, are not openly debatable in Ireland at the moment,as to do so,would invite threat of legal action or worse.

It is rather sadly accurate, that truly deserving, homeless and dependent, are often physically and mentally brutalized by members of,a well organized and (often female) controlled movement, whom the Gardai are reluctant to act against, given the many and various issues which an individual Garda will face should he/she pursue the matter.

Official policy appears to be one of Ignoring the problem,in the hope that the activists of the group will move elsewhere as better opportunities present themselves.

A priority would be a positive identification, verification and registration system to record their comings & goings, with such information being placed on the same databases as the rest of us.

However, sadly for Lass and many other unfortunates, their needs are seen as less pressing than that of the Roma, and as such, they'll just have to live with it . :(

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

The terms Romanian and Roma are often used interchangably which is wrong. Romania is a country which has a minority of people who identify as Romani gypsy travellers, same as most countries in Europe. The vast majority of Romanians are settled. The Roma community is spread throughout Europe so the Romani you see in Ireland could be Crotian, Hungarian, British, anywhere really, not just Romania. Though romania does happen to have one of the larger Roma minority populations in Europe

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romani_people
Most Romani people are Turkish. Approx 10% of the worlds Romani population are Romanian. There are up to 1 million American Romani, Spanish Romani, Brazilian Romani etc

Are Roma Gypsies harming our future? No, but this sort of xenophobic sh*te certainly isn't doing us any good. Seven years since you joined Boards and this is the extent of your first contribution? You should be proud of yourself.

But you know what, it's Christmas and there's enough crap going around this year without adding to it, so instead of banning you for trolling, which I'm very inclined to do because I can't see any other point to this thread, I'm just going to lock this thread and wish everyone a very Happy Christmas.
