CNN and Bloomberg not working

Just got a new dish installed. Both CNN and Bloomberg are showing no signal available. All other channels appear to work fine.

The dish feeds 4 rooms, and it's the same in all four, so it can't be the box.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    What box are you using?

I have 4 old sky boxes which I use as freeview boxes. The old dish which I replaced did show CNN and Bloomberg on those boxes.

Can you do a full scan with any of them? I'v gone the FTA route for ages and have forgotten how the Sky box works !!!

    en.kingofsat.net for frequencies.

No experience at all with this. I'm sure I can find on the box how to do full scan, but you've lost me with the frequencies.

OK. CNN HD and CNN SD are at 11112/H/22000. Bloomberg has stopped broadcasting to Europe.

That is not possible. Freeview is a UK service delivered by an aerial not a sky box.

So what do you call the channels you get on satellite that are free such as Channel 4, ITV 1,2,3 and 4,Sky News
    ,Film 4,BBC1,2 and 4 etc etc. ?

Are they Free to View Channels ?

If so I haven't got CNN for a good while now.

Free To Air (FTA) satellite channels is what you are getting ;)

I have Bloomberg on at the moment - Charlie Rose - so it is still available on satellite here.

I have a Sky SD Digibox which I use as a FTA box because I took the viewing card out and I never had the subscription channels. It hasn't received CNN since last year.

    Bloomberg is on 11082 H 22000. Gone from 11427 V.

Both that transponder and 11112 H with CNN are weak signals on my 1.1 metre dish, only 8.8 dB. That is not much above the limit where I would get picture breakup. By comparison some transponders are hitting the max on my receiver readout, 20dB.

Someone with a smaller dish might struggle to get a good signal.

Strange, I have no reception problems using an old Sky dish; signals are steady.

A smaller dish might have less trouble, due to being less sensitive to misalignment.

In Ireland, should be no problems whatever with 28 east reception, whether on 'Europe' beams, like the above mentioned TPs, or UK beams.

According to KingofSat both Bloomberg and CNN Hd are on Astra 2G so you shouldn't have any signal strength issues these days. If memory serves, I think Bloomberg used to be on the weak Eutelsat once upon a time.

CNN is certainly working as the guy who installed my dish showed it working to me off a dish in the shop.

Anyway, I did a full rescan, after finding the Intsallation menu on the Sky Box. I think it used to be called an Astra Scan. The transponder is set to 11.778 V by default, and the rescan didn't help.

I then tried 10.714 H, 12.207V, and 10.817 V, but for those it came up no signal.

As I said before, I've no experience with this, so forgive the ignorance.

I have four old sky boxes in different rooms, and they are different vintages, but the rescan didn't work on any of them. I suspect it is a box configuration issue though.

Thanks, will have a look around the menu system. Is that the transponder setting?

A Sky box will probably look for additional setting info., such as FEC (5/6 in this case), & modulation type (QPSK).

They must be on holidays. Have those guys working on Christmas Eve, so cruel.

There was another thread about this problem earlier on this year, with a few people reporting a weak signal for CNN.

Cnn and Bloomberg working perfect on a freesat humax hdr on a Zone one dish, in Wexford

    OP

i was getting 60% signal strength and 0% signal quality

problem was the skew of the LNB was wrong ..set it to 20 degrees clockwise and you should be sorted

Well if these channels only stopped working when the dish was changed, then I'd be pretty sure that is where the problem lies, & I'd be getting the installer back to do a proper job.

Really this should have been the 1st reply, rather than getting sidetracked into this scanning stuff.

Agree with fryup .. pretty sure it's the skew of the LNB, installer should have sorted it before he left.

Was that for all channels, or just cnn? My signal strength is excellent, but will get up on a stepladder and have a look.

If it's a Sky type dish, the skew adjustment will be limited, & unlikely to be the sole problem here, plain old misalignment of the dish being my main suspect.

Just because you have 'excellent' signal, as indicated by the receiver, on some channels, doesn't mean this will be true for all.

    just cnn,

rest of channels were coming in fine except cnn, but adjusting the skew helped me get cnn without affecting other channels

There's no problem getting either CNN or Bloomberg, beyond useless installation.

Am going to check angle of LNB and dish, but the installer isn't back at work until new year. I'm reluctant to try it myself.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^

its easy, you just loosen two screws on the clamp and twist the Lnb clockwise

go to 3.55 on this video
