Hoping this isn't old news but there's a new primary school opening in the Dun Laoghaire in Sept 2017. Educate Together (I've no affiliation with them) are collecting signatures from prospective parents interesting in sending their kids there. We only moved to the area a few months back so are betting the farm on getting a place here or else it's a netflix education in store for our kids born in Australia.
School will be determined based on number of signatures received by the 4th of Jan 2017 so if you know any new to the area, or extremely lazy, parents please send their way.
I'm a new user so I can't include a URL, but if you type in Educate Together Dun Laoghaire it's result number one under the ad.
    Thanks all, Charlie

It's a bit silly of the DES to talk about opening a new school when patronage hadn't been decided at this stage . Gaelscoileanna also want to the new school as a multi-denominational school. Surely the equivalent of Facebook " likes" is a pretty silly way to start a new school . I thought census data was supposed to help planning . Typical DES.

How would census data help determine the patronage ?

Firstly by establishing the number of children in the area and begin building for that number of required places . Then instead of last minute rushing to decide the patronage, the parents of those children could apply for the type of school they want for their child and apply using their pps numbers . Online petitions can be skewed by people who don't even have children or aren't resident in that area.

Talking to friends down there. Lot more people than usual sending in other options rather than having an educate together school. Some of them seem openly hostile to it.
