N76 - Tennypark to Brownstown

Just see here the N76 road out of Kilkenny is to get some badly needed works, allegedly starting in the New Year. I gather it will realign the awful series of bends around Tennypark, the location of numerous serious accidents over the years. As well as safety improvements.
Quite a busy route that links the M9/N10 down to Clonmel. Hopefully it will happen as it's been mooted and talked about for decades.

They could do something about those bumps and undulations around Duggan Steel aswell.

Not been out that way in a while? Do you mean the road surface or the way the road follows the humps and undulations. Far as I know that was probably widened in the 80s or so.

If you mean the road surface on the Callan side of Tullamaine then I 100% agree with you.

Regarding the OP it's about bloody time someone got the finger out and done something about that piece of road.

In fairness to Kilkenny coco they've nursed the project along, it was waiting for central funding to build it was the issue. The design and CPOs are long sorted so there was clearly a wait for public finances to recover a bit. It's taken a very long time alright.

I mean the surface, most of it's ok, then you hit this one section that almost throws you off the road. It needs to be planed I would say.
I don't mind the big humps:)

This was fairly close to ready in 2011 when work on it was suspended by Varadkar, but it's been relit as part of TII's plan to complete about 20 realignments in 2016 (this is scraping the barrel for 2016 a bit I know). Great to see it finally going ahead. For the benefits it brings the cost is peanuts.

Yea there were constant accidents until a few years back before when they lowered the speed limit, warning signs etc.
There's a lot of small schemes like this on the national secondaries planned that will make huge improvements for as you say relatively little money.

Seems to be powering ahead nicely. Drove by it a few weeks back and major earthworks look completed. Onto drainage and hopefully Road will take shape soon

This new realignment is taking shape nicely. All the traffic is diverted onto the new road layout now which eliminates the worst of the bad bends which were an accident blackspot. Should be finished in the spring I'd say.
Nice wide and straight new section to replace it.

I remember when Callan was bypassed about 20 odd years ago as I have an old college friend who came from near the town. It was a horrid little bottleneck with a one lane bridge.
