Signature Songs you dislike

I like Leonard Cohen but hate Hallelujah
I like Led Zeppelin but hate Stairway to Heaven
I like John Lennon but hate Imagine

I think it's because they've been drip fed via tv adverts, cover versions, department store musak, lift music to the point they've become almost 'non-songs' so you hear them in various guises and just think meh.

Sineád O'Connor's Nothing Compares To You.

    Can't stand either.

Would Leonard Cohen's signature song be Hallelujah? It wasn't in his Greatest Hits album and most people know it from Jeff Buckely. Surely his signature song would be Suzanne or Marianne. But I love them all!

Seems to have become his signature song in the last 10 or so years for people who weren't really familiar with his stuff before.

Ray D'arcy for example started playing loads of different versions of it on his show after he died.

    Probably Shrek related.

Fairytale of New York by the Pogues and kirsty McColl.

I have made sure to avoid hearing it this year.

Any of Robbie Williams songs from 90's especially Angels.

    Bob Marley...No woman no cry.

    Don't Stop Believin'

    Absolute drivel

    Oasis - Wonderwall
The Pogues & Kirsty McColl - Fairytale of New York
Bob Marley - I Shot The Sheriff

To be honest, with nearly all the artists I like, it's always their "big" song that is the one I hate the most!

There's a lot of songs that were infinitely overplayed when released and when I hear them now they sound like nails on a blackboard...examples such as Cornershop - Brimful of Asha and Chumbawamba - Tubthumping come to mind as does the aforementioned Wonderwall.

Love AC/DC but hate You Shook Me All Night Long.

Sex on Fire - It's just this dull, droning sh1te, I heard a newer KOL song recently and it was actually good but I've only heard it on radio once, whereas Sex on Fire got played on radio ten million f*cking times.

Thunderstruck - Overproduced and the lyrics are beyond dreadful, don't get the hype about it.

I like Smells Like Teen Spirit and Black Hole Sun but they way, way overplayed and I'm fed up of hearing them.

Billy Joel - very uncool to like him, but I think he's fantastic. However, I pretty much can't stand Uptown Girl. Probably Westlife's fault.

I don't know about that, since it contains my absolute favourite Angus guitar solo. Hell's Bells or Thunderstruck would be the ones I'd leave out.

I'm a fan of Rush, but have gotten sick of Tom Sawyer to the point that I say I admire it more than like it. It's such a bizarre song to become a signature song, but then we Rush fans do like our existential statements about human existence punctuated by synth and guitar solos in 7/4 time ...

Big Oasis fan but never liked Wonderwall.

They only version I do find agreeable is the Ryan Adams cover.

You may be right. I may be crazy ... but I am a bit sick of Piano Man. :o

Aslan - Crazy World...... how I despise that song.... partly as I had to phone LAYA once and was left holding for an eternity - and that's their phone-holding music with which they torture people.

Lou Reed - don't like either 'Perfect Day' or 'Walk On the Wildside'.

I love R.E.M. but always skip over 'Everybody Hurts' if it comes on (although I don't know would you call it their signature tune).

Also it's great to listen to while spending your Saturday night drinking Shasta and playing Space Invaders.

Santana Smooth. The very definition of a great song overplayed to death.

I will admit that You Shook Me.. does contain one of Angus Young's greatest solos, but I think the song as a whole sounds too slick and a bit boring; the chorus is a real drag and they repeat about it five hundred times . It's songs like it that make me realise how much I love that Bon Scott era over Brian Johnson - the songs were stupid, smutty and repetitive at times then too - maybe all the time - but they had that touch of wit and danger about them that they lost after he died.

Hells Bells is a great tune in my opinion - fantastic intro, love the slow mean sounding riff and Brian Johnson sings the shit out of it.

Thunderstruck wouldn't be high on my list of all time favourite AC/DC tunes - I'm with you there! Brian Johnson sounds ridiculously strangulated during it. Maybe I've just heard it too much.

Totally agree, its hard to top something like this.
