    Hi

So was wondering how to cosmetically 'fix' our fireplace.

We recently moved in and a new one is not top of the spends list.

We don't light the fire so I was wondering if painting was an option.

The front piece is in perfect nick but the bottom looks like it was overcleaned and is now discoloured same with the top.

How good or poor would it look painted and what paint would I use. Not sure what other options I might have?

It has a rough sandy feel to it so I expect I'd need to sand!

    Pictures to follow

I recently did just that (painted a fireplace I will eventually replace) with White Satinwood and fitted some cheap white trim to the outer hearth to cover the expansion gap for the laminate flooring.Though the hearth on ours was old, chipped marble and the mantle itself was all wooden. It's far from perfect but it looks a lot cleaner than it did and lets the eye pass over it in an otherwise totally renovated room whereas previously it stuck out like a sore thumb.

I'm still kicking myself over it tbh. We unexpectedly had to get the room totally re-plastered (right back to the bare concrete - even the bonding was shot) and never thought to replace the fireplace as part of that job.
