Have ongoing problems here with predators. Read llama / alpacas are good to protect the flock, but never actually met anyone that has one. So anyone actually have one ? And are they any good ?

Not sure what price llamas or alpacas are. But I was told that donkeys can be very good with a sheep flock?

Anyone ever hear that? Am sure a donkey would be easier sourced than an alpaca.

No responsible lads around that would come out and do a bit of vermin control for you?

There is ok and we do that, but the f*****rs are relentless. Had a ewe go on her back yesterday and found the bottom half completely eaten away to the bone this morning. Thinking of something that would chase away predator as well.

A gelded male alpaca will cost about 500 euro. Very easy to manage and they are easy enough to fence. No registration needed. No real return from hair as its coarse. Specialist shearing needed at about 50 euro per animal for small numbers. Teeth and feet done at shearing. Think they have to get used to flock to become protective of them. Seems they are good against foxes.
