Hi,
Hoping that some of you can advise me as i am about to drop €140 on a MINIX NEO X8-H plus.
I already have a Mini M8S ii which has android 6 , S905X Quad Core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU, 2GB of RAM and 8GB of ROM.#
I have had various Chinese boxes in the past but the M8S ii has been by far the best i have used thus far.
The box is used only to run kodi.
My question is it worth my while upgrading to the MINIX NEO X8-H plus, will there be much of a difference between the boxes.
I prefer to use the box via ethernet so WiFi etc would not be a problem.
Have a few quid left over for Christmas and this has been on my wishlist for a while.
Obviously do not want to fork out the €140 if the difference is minimal.
Thanks
J

Worth considering a pure intel box running Kodi openelec native build. I have had androids boxes and have two of these and the gigabyte boxes are far more powerful. Booting into Kodi is immediate with no messing about with android apps. All normal fly mouse and keyboard setups work too

Just add 4gb ram and a hard drive. With the HDD space you can download content also for offline viewing

Don't buy..
It's an end of life product that is dead for Kodi going forward.
It's on KitKat with no official upgrade above that, Kodi 17 and above require Android 5 or higher.

Get Wetek Hub, Core or Mi Box for that money.

While the U1 will run Kodi 17 or SPMC no problem. If you are wanting to upgrade on your current box to a Minix Box,you could hold out
a couple of Weeks(no set date yet,but soon). For the new Minix U9-H which should be a solid box,is on paper anyway. They are awaiting some clearance on
licensing paperwork to clear(so I believe) for the likes of Netflix etc, etc.

Yes. I am waiting for the box to replace my current X8-H :)

Yeah, I'd definitely hold out for the U9 to be honest. Although, there are bargains to be found with the Neo U1 with stock being sold off before the new model arrives. However, if you are in no rush, hold off for the U9 and you'll get years of viewing out of it! :D

Hope you dont mind me jumping on this

Looking for some advice as well. I have a Minix H8 a good few years ago but sold it and went to Windows Mini PC(mele PCG03). I changed to windows because of all the firmware issue with Minix and now the Mini PC has quit working.

Has there been any change in last 2 years or are all the Android boxes a mess of dodgy firmwares?

You should post on the main thread here - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057446012

I've had the Minix X-8H for years and never had a problem with firmware - it's all OTA updates. I've got a number of Minix boxes and never had any issues with them. The cheaper boxes are a nightmare to update firmware on though.

Hi,

I have an M8S box on which I need the Kodi and Modbro apps updated. Is there anyone who can do this? Happy to pay them a few quid naturally...

You're asking for help with apps that can't be named or discussed here I'm afraid. If you look on YouTube or Google, there are loads of step by step tutorials which may be able to assist you. Updates to these boxes are not difficult once you can follow the easy step tutorials, that's about all I can say.... ;)
