    Hi,

I am just wondering if anyone has any experience of paying vrt and if it is more likely to go down in price on 1st January?

I am due to pay vrt on my car and I don't know if I should wait to clear it until the new year but I'm afraid also in case the price goes up.

If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

This has been asked a number of times in the last month or so, there is no guarantee that the VRT figure will drop on January 1st, in fact it's possible it might increase. The only way to know is when you present the car for it's VRT inspection or hold off by a month though you risk late penalties at that stage. If you feel the VRT figure is too high then you can appeal it after you pay the initial figure. You need to produce examples of cheaper versions of your car such as DD adverts, etc. But the appeal process is successful in a lot of cases and people have got some sort of refund from Revenue.

Thanks for this info, I never thought of the appeals side of things! I'll def start looking into that and could look at appeal! I know if I held off until January 1st and it increased by a lot I would be sickened! I can't really hold off a month in paying as my insurance company will cut it off as they said I have 30 days to clear it which would bring me up until January 10th

Yeah, it's tough one but reading on here the success rate of appealing is pretty good so worth doing irrespective of the figure next month. Just produce some solid evidence in the form of similar cars priced for sale here and you have a good chance of getting something back from them. Worth the effort of appealing anyway.

I think i remember reading on here before that the vrt dont change it till about the third month into the year.
Not sure how true that is as i i think the prices can change anytime from looking at it over the year.
