Insurance/tax issue

Hi, I have been caught on the road without insurance or tax. Stupid I know. I Let the ball drop. Quite a lot has been going on lately including incidents I have been reporting to the Garda which would have affected my ability to pay e.g multiple thefts.
I have gotten tax + arrears and insurance sorted now but there is a gap in my insurance. I was told by the Garda who stopped me to go to the station and produce my tax and insurance cert. I need to go in before Friday. Is there anything I can say in the station that could affect the outcome, e.g try to give him my story as to how this could have happened or is it most likely the case that he will take the attitude that I should save it for the court I was caught. He will be able to see records in his pulse system if he looks that will back up what I say. Anyone any advice on how to approach this?

Everyone goes in with a sob story. You will set yourself apart by just going in, apologising, admitting it was an unusual oversight, and leaving it at that.

Get ready for a court appearance, five points, a fine and possible prison sentence.

If they can prove you'd no insurance on the day, that's the penalties.

Tell the truth, you'll be caught out otherwise and it'll be presented to the judge when you go to court.

You won't get much sympathy here for being an uninsured driver.

If there is a gap between when you were stopped and when you renewed then you were driving uninsured at the time of being stopped. I'd say the Gardai will leave it up to the judge to decide what to do.

Be honest, just tell them the truth, It will go far better then trying to do anything else,And the guards often respond in kind.

First thing in the morning go to a solicitor who deals with road traffic offences and get legal advice.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Head to Australia for a year or two.

I hear Canada is nice this time of year as well

Is it the same station that you reported thefts to? You should speak to the guard who dealt with your thefts.

    Jesus mate relax

Unfortunately theres nothing you can do. No point producing insurance since you didn't have it. If it goes to court it will be up to the judge.

You won't be going to prison though. Talk about exaggeration!

i'd just go in and produce your new cert and say nothing and hope for the best. Answer any query honestly.

This an equally important one for you OP. If you have been stopped during a gap in insurance that is usually an immediate refusal for insurance companies.

Where does one draw the line on speculating the outcome of events one hasn't even been formally accused of yet?

I'm sure the insurance industry would love a Minority Report style way of loading refusing people. Although some of the """"logic""""" (gibberish) behind some of the """"reasoned stances"""" (random fvcking brainwaves from mid level managers more likely) aren't far off that as it is.

That being said - if this is a legitimate story from the OP I'd say he can forget about getting insurance in the future if he is convicted of driving without insurance at the end of this story.

Go in, be honest, Guards are sick and tired of the sob stories.
If you go in with Tax and insurance valid, there is a chance you might catch a break. Go in spouting bull****e and sob stories and you will defo get no symathy.

surely not. You would have to disclose that you had been prosecuted but just being stopped is not of any consequence.

Well if you've been stopped and asked to produce and you have nothing to produce there's a strong chance a prosecution will be following soon after so most companies will just run a mile.

You don't have to disclose "what if" or "strong chances", just actual prosecutions.

There's always a chance there won't be a successful prosecution for any number of reasons and no prosecution = nothing to declare.

If there is a gap in cover between last insurance cover and new quote on same car then insurers will ask "if you have been asked to produce cover by member of Garda/police(depending on region) / have you any motoring offences cautioned/pending or applied to your licence.... thus if failed to disclose will null policy cover provided

Hope all goes well but producing a Cert to Garda that was obtained under non discloser could warrant heavier outcome.!

How long had you no insurance for? I've seen mothers with kids put off the road when the insurance hasn't been transferred from one car to another even though it may have been only a day out.
