I am thinking of buying in the new estate in NMK and was just looking to get some opinions on the area?
Is it safe, any social issues outside a pub after closing etc?
(I realise every area has good and bad points but if someone who has moved there if appreciate if they would recommend it or not)
    Thanks

    Hi there,

i recently bought in the area ( prob same estate, due to complete in 2 days). I have family there and been living the last 3 months in their house.

Having moved from Greystones i am very happy, i work in Sandyford and travelling has been fine, i frequently socialise in Dublin and south Dublin and have not had any issue in that regard either.

I would recommend the houses, if its the same estate you wont get better for the price really, its transport links are very good ( hourly bus into Dublin city centre for €4.20 on the leap card)

I am a blow in so probably am yet to see the bad yet but the future for the town seems to be very bright ( though traffic congestion could become an issue)

Planning permission has just gone in for a commercial building which is being described as a "country market" and at over 10000 square foot its quite large.

Hoping to buy in most likely same location, wondering what broadband options are like in the area?

I live here and I'm getting Eircom Fibre 100MB broadband

The area is up and coming. A number of houses are being built with more promised down the line.

Being this close to the motorway really helps in terms of commuting

.......and if you move there remember it's all one word without spaces and hyphens, Newtownmountkennedy, Ireland's longest place name. :-)

I would not live in Newtown if you paid me.
The pubs in the village? Do a bit of googling on these.

A lot of old links there

I have a friend that lives near there and we've gone out there a few times. Wouldn't be my favourite place to socialise in to be honest but that was because of the limited options, not because it ever felt dangerous.

old links, doesnt really show that the town in a hotbed of crime, rather than targeted for breakins and one drug dealer lives there!

You wont a single Alsatian in the area. They need to go around in pairs.

Ah stop spouting rubbish. You could find links like that about any town.

NTMK is not a hotbed of crime.

Articles from years back are not a good representation of an area currently. Just because the media don't comment on crime in ballygohome doesn't mean it doesn't happen there. Crime happens everywhere.

I lived near there for a year or two around 2000.
    Never had any issues.

    I'm from NTMK.

Like anywhere, it has its good and bad points.... Its certainly an up and coming area, and there will be further development in the coming years. It's a fairly small town so gossip (like anywhere) can spread like wildfire, mostly among the old biddies in the town.

In relation to posts about crime, yes, unfortunately recently there have been a good few burglaries. But everyone looks out for each other in my part anyway.

My advice would be to get out and eat to know the area, it has some lovely walks surrounding the village that in my opinion are just beautiful.
