Hi - anyone know the best (cheapest to run) one out there? I know there's other threads and I have looked but a lot of them are old information. Want to get one for my son for online purchases etc - thanks

Revolute I guess is pretty cheap, being that its free.

Get the app, request the card, and top it up via your phone. All free

I have to agree. Revolut is pretty impressive. Esp if you travel or need to make purchase outside the EU.

Yeah another vote Revolut. Use it all the time. Especially when in NI.

I want to get a card for my son but he is under 18 - so I will register a card and he can use it . But I can't find it in the Revolut FAQs ..... is there a name on the physical card? or is it just a number? (he is 15, won't like it if my name is on it) :D

and do you have to load it up before you travel? (I think that's a yes)

There is a name on the card, yes. He's 15, and getting a credit(Debit) card, boo hoo if your name is on it. All the better I say. "Hey guys, I got my Dads credit card!".

I think you could get the card in your son's name (sign up on your son's phone's revolut app), and just add your bank card as a source to top up his card. This would allow your son to top up his card at any time though (he'd only need the 3 digits on the back of the card to complete the transfer)... maybe not ideal.

To circumvent this, you could get a revolute card for yourself, and your son. YOU dont even need to get a physical card. Your revolute account would serve as an intermediary, which you could transfer funds to your sons account from - There's a send money to a friend feature. This way you can, from anywhere, easily control what money goes to your son, without him going nuts on your card.

FYI. You can top up the card at any time, so long as your phone has an internet connection.

I'd almost suggest you just get a revolut card yourself, see what its about over a week or 2, and then you'll have a better idea what can be done. It's free, so there's nothing to lose.
