Quick rules question

Road is normally 80kph coming towards a village with a school it then drops to 60kph been that way since as long as i have known it. In the last couple of weeks a local group have erected those digital spped signs that tell you you are going to fast unless you are going under 35kph from what i have figured out.

Is the speed limit still 60kph as per sign or is it now 35kph? I know they obviously got planning for these but there is no official speed sign bar the 60kph one.

Occasionally the local council changes speed limits on roads, usually due to road works. They usually have some documents on their website with notice of the change.

Think they are only advisory signs and not speed limit there are a few around cork Melbourne road being one.

35 is an odd number though. Typically if there is variable speed limits, the alternative sign lights up and usually displays 30 km/h as the limit to adhere to around schools.

yup its odd and usually at the top of these there is a permanent sign that says what the speed it. I only say 35 as once you go over it it flashes something at ya and this operates 24/7. I only really ask as it is also an area that has a flash for cash van in it occasionally.

Regardless of background legalities of implementing alternative limits etc, if there is no new actual speed limit posted for motorists to see, there can be a new limit in place.
Sounds more like warning signs placed to encourage people to slow down.

To clarify there is no legal speed limit of 35 km/h in Ireland except the cautionary 35 km/h used for roadworks which is a cautionary limit, not a mandatory limit.

Also they need to pass a bye law to change the speed limit, part of that requires posting legal limit signs.

The minimum legally enforceable speed limit outside of certain areas of Dublin is 50kph afaik.

The minimum legally enforceable speed limit is 30 km/h (and under the Road Traffic Bill 2016 there will also be a 20 km/h limit). The 20 and 30 limit is not limited to Dublin.
