Title says it all, quickest bus route from the city centre(and from where), outside of rush hour?

Edit, it's the bus routes I'm interested in.

    Driving yourself or public transport?

Driving yourself I'd say along the quays and through the Pheonix Park.

Public transport, depending on where you're starting from, the 39 bus or the train as far as Castleknock station.

Crap, I obviously left out the most important word, bus!

I usually drive so know all the variations, it's the bus I need to know about.

Really outside of rush hour the 38 or 39 would be much the same. I'm not sure with the Luas works but I think you can get either on Dawson St. sort of outside Hogis Figgis, the big book shop. They should both come as far as O'Connell bridge, the 39 then goes along the quays and up Manor St. The 38 goes up O'Connell St.

The 38a is faster than the 38 as it avoids Castleknock Village. 39 takes the same route as the 38a to the village.

If you're getting off in the village you also have the option of the 70 and the 39a, these however do not go through the village but they leave you on the Navan Road. Once you hit the M50 roundabout hit the button and get off at the next stop, village is a 3 minute walk from there.

If you're actually travelling outside of rush hour it doesn't make that much difference. At peak times Castleknock can add about 30 minutes onto the time, when it's quiet it's only a few minutes.

I've flash backs to being on some of the nitelinks and thinking we're almost home at the Halfway House and end up taking the tour of Dublin 5 when it swings around by the race course.

Still at the time the Nitelink is on there is no traffic. Has to be the quickest bus.

Otherwise there is no "quick" bus service.

    The train is much faster.

    Long tour alright!

Problem with the train is that the bus stop is usually closer to where I am, and I've been known to be put to sleep by the gentle rocking and swaying of the carriage and been woken by kind strangers at Leixlip or Celbridge.
