Sourcing a set-top box

I am trying to source a basic single-tuner set-top box for an elderly neighbour whose Nordmende box has given up. I checked it out for her this afternoon, it remains on P1 (RTE 1) and does not change to the other channels. The remote control unit is fine etc. etc., so it definitely appears to be a box end-of-life signal.

If anyone here can suggest where I could source one of these, new or used, for her OR if someone who has upgraded to twin-tuner or different type of box and may have one for sale, I would be interested to hear from you. Any help / suggestions appreciated.

Is recording a priority? Do they just need the Saorview channels?

If Saorview and recording is required, this box for €85 is great value...

Thanks AD - recording is not required at all, she is only interested in being able to watch the 4 main channels. A basic basic single-tuner is all that is required here. I was hoping that I would be able to source something considerably cheaper than the one you mention.

Have you tried unplugging the box from the mains for a minute or so?

you should go into the installation menu of that nordmende box with the remote control and clear the channels or do a first time installation,
this often fixes this problem with nordmende boxes and tv's.
worth a try.

Thanks for that information pegasuspub. It is worth a try, I am not familiar with the installation of the Nordmende, presumably it is somewhat similar to a Triax set-up, which I am familiar with. Anyway, hopefully it works as it would make things a little bit easier for her. Thanks again.

Yes, that was my first test. Also, checked the arial connections etc. etc. The tv responds to the remote control insofar as the channel numbers change on the screen but the box remains set at P1 (RTE1). Will have a go at pegasuspub's suggestion tomorrow evening. Thanks.
