''Popping'' out of first gear, what's the cause?

2007 Xtrail.. Sometimes when disengaging 1st it wants to pop back into neutral, like there is a slight bit of force behind it. I am wondering what might be causing this. The problem is intermittant, there is no grinding of gears, it doesn't happen with any other gear. Clutch bite seems the same. I'd like to nip this in the bud if possible.

Does this happen when your driving but lift off the accelerator pedal ? If so then its most likely your synchro within the gearbox.

No it doesn't happen then, but when I put my hand down on the lever all I have to do is barely touch it and it's out.

Worse case scenario is that it is a synchro but it could also be that your gear linkage needs replacing or even adjusting.

    Possible rear engine mount.

Thanks.. had a peek today, one of them is noticeably worn. Hopefully that's the source of the problem.
