    Hi,
Just wondering if someone can help me!!! I received a letter for revenue looking for information on rent paid by me from 2009 to 2015!!!
I have rented these years and have claimed the rent relief credit, just wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of information they are looking for??? I don't have any receipts but have bank account statements showing rents paid every month for these years???

What information did the letter ask for? Did it ask for proof of rent paid?

It says; I need full details of all rents paid to landlords for year 2009 to 2015!!!

I would think you list out the payments (as on your bank statements) for each month for those years - along with the name of your landlord and the addresses that you were renting.
Maybe to be on the safe side, contact Revenue in the morning to be sure that the letter is legit and not some kind of scam.

Sounds like you have been claiming for rent relief and they want proof or they will claw it back

And claw it back they will, make no mistake!

Would revenue then check to see if landlord declared the rent?

Yes they would. But this wouldn't be a concern for the renter in this case.

There is probably an email address of who is doing this query, you can email them and ask them what do they need exactly as 2009-2015 bank statements may not exactly be to hand very quickly and may cost you to request.

Thanks for the relies...So would the rent being paid by direct debit be enough to suffice as proof, I have most certainly rented for these years and quite a considerable amount, I am definitely entitled to my relief!!! It's not really my problem if both landlords have not declared their rental income... But will revenue give them my name if they contact about the rental income or what details will revenue ask them???

Both the landlords that I had during those years never issued a receipt but the 1st landlord had us registered with the tenancy board

Have you already got your relief? AFAIK you can now only claim back for 4 yrs.

And no, Revenue will not disclose your name due to Data Protection. Most likely, if the landlords are not tax compliant, Revenue will hit them with an assessment. Maybe they have changed their attitude, but its not that long ago the you would be considered guilty, until proven innocent, by Revenue.

I would just send them the totals paid for each year, to whom, and in respect of which property.

This may be part of an audit of one of your landlords...and most likely has nothing to do with you at all....alternatively it may simply be an "aspect query" to check that you're entitled to claim rent credit. (Some people who claim it are not correctly entitled to it as they started renting after 7th December 2010).

I certainly wouldn't be contacting Revenue at all on this other than to reply to the original query. Keep it simple and straightforward

There's numerous reasons they could be looking into your claim, either random or targetted.

Have they requested a copy of the rental agreement by any chance? Are you or one of the other tenants claiming the single parent credit? Was there any period in the years requested when you did not rent? Whatever you do, dont mess about with them.
Always assume Revenue have more information than you think they do, even if it is only a random check.
