Onkyo tx-NR515 and 4K

Just some advice needed, as I'm out of the loop regarding 4K.
Basically have the onkyo above with Jamo speakers and sub.

I have upgraded from sky hd to sky Q and also just got a new 4K tv.

So basically the onkyo doesn't support 4K HDMI passthrough from what I can gather.
Which is what the family would be doing with sky Q for general watching.
Where as I use the speakers when I'm watching something.
So I can't find any info about if it supports 4K inputs.
All I can see from reading online is that it supports 4K upscaling from lower resolutions.

I will probably be adding a 4K bluray and PS4 later so will I need a new receiver or is the onkyo still up to the job?

Also do I need new hdmi cables?
Also just after reading about hdcp2.2

Which is what prompted me to make this thread , any advice on what that is in laymans terms would be good.
As from what I read older equipment won't be compatible with that.

Does the Sky Q box have an optical out? If it does, you could run a hdmi from it directly to the tv for pictures and an optical to the Onkyo for sound. That's the usual recommended workaround. You'll still get DD 5.1 audio via optical. Or you could run the optical cable from the optical out on the Tv back to the receiver.

Then again, how much actual 4K content will you watch? As far as I know it's still pretty limited on Sky. Some football matches and some of the movies. Otherwise you'll mainly be watching standard HD.

That said, I recently upgraded to a new 4K receiver myself. My main motivation though was that my old receiver only had 2 hdmi inputs and that was becoming annoying. The new one (Denon 2300) has 8!

I didn't buy any new hdmi cables. The ones I've been using for the last few years all work fine with my 4K tv, the new AVR and all the connected devices. No issues. None of them were expensive "gold plated" ones either!

Yea it has optical out, i have already gone the route you posted above, and i thought the same that there isn't enough 4K content yet to justify a new receiver.
So i'll be good for a while as long as the itch for new gear keeps away :)
Any excuse usually sets it off.

    Thanks
