Hi everyone just wondering do any of you suffer with very dry eyes? What causes this ? And how do you deal with it. Any remedies ? Is it just eye drops? Very annoying isn't it

Dry eye sufferer here. I don't know what causes it, but, I think in my case it was excessive wearing of contact lenses.

I try to wear my glasses more now and save my lenses for weekends/sports. Blinking slowly gives me temporary relief if they feel dry when I'm at work - staring at a computer screen doesn't help. Also taking regular breaks from close-up work to let my eyes rest, e.g. focusing on something in the distance for 20 seconds or just closing my eyes.

My optician recommended Systane Ultra eye drops and also Hyloforte eye drops for dry eyes. Both are over the counter. You might find them good.

Yeah my optician did say that I seem to have dry eyes. Blink slow and close them for a couple of seconds. Thanks I will try get those drops. Yeah I'd only wear lenses going out very occasionally.

When I had my consultation for laser I was saying that sometimes I had dry eyes, apart from drops the optometrist told me to take fish oils and drink loads of water to help with it! When I had a second consult he asked me about it and I realised I hadn't had dry eyes for months, having started taking fish oils every day! Could be coincidence but no harm trying! Not expensive ones either I just use whatever ones lidl/aldi have at the time :-)

Thanks for the tip. I am going to try this and hopefully will see an improvement :)

Yeah, don't get the combined omega 3/6/9 version of fish oil supplements.
Apparently they seem to cancel the benefit of omega 3 only (the one that helps dry eyes).

Just take the omega 3 ones only.

So the consultant at Optilase told me.

Yeah I've heard something about that too! I usually get omega 3 and the odd time if it's not available I'd get cod liver oil or whatever closest one they had!

Fish oils and lutein really help

I've had dry eyes for easily the last 15 years. Thought it was something that I'd always have to deal with using drops. The consultant in optilase told me that I was probably lacking in omega 3 (I don't eat fish so that made sense). Popped my ass down to Tescos and bought some cod liver oil. Within three weeks I didn't have dry eyes anymore.

Literally a lifetime of a problem fixed with such a simple thing. I'm amazed that optometrists don't recommend it as standard when you go for any eye test.

I had a had eye problem for a few years. I then started increasing water intake to at least three litres per day and dry eye problem vanished.

Great tips here I've desperately bad dry eyes at the moment. I've been to 2 consultants recently- neither mentioned omega 3. I'm going to holland and Barrett first thing tomorrow
