Will you be going to Church on Christmas Eve, or Christmas day? or both?

I do love the atmosphere at the midnight service on Christmas Eve, but its not always practical to be there at midnight, so its usually Christmas morning when we attend as a family, which is lovely.

    How about you?

Eve. Midnight mass. Candles and choir. Beautiful.

Went to carol service before Mass at 8.30, then Mass at nine. Christmas Eve obv.

The heat in the church was unreal, people fainting all over the place. I left OH to it, and stood outside to cool off. I don't like crowded places at the best of times.

Sorry if it comes across as bad or anything, but I had great craic with the "outsiders", and then we went to the pub down the road for an hour. Was lovely.

On the day itself, it has a nice and festive atmosphere.

I expect I'll hear all the Masses from the Vigil of the Nativity of Our Lord to the Feast of the Protomartyr Stephen. There'll be plenty of hours to see and hear the lot of them, and drink all sorts of beers, wines and whiskeys.

Early Christmas morning, MIL can't be left alone, so need to be back before she gets up.

Says the guy in the Christian forum. I guess the old joke is still apt, how do you tell someone is an atheist... :D

We go to the Vigil Mass. On the day itself, we have a lot to prepare for (this year in particular herself's parents and mine are both coming to dinner  ) and I find the Mass a bit... well different on the day. Our local is usually choc-a-bloc with kids playing with toys for instance. The Vigil is a far more serene and peaceful service.

I figured the answer to this would be interesting so I put it to the general posters on boards over here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057683858

The aim of the poll is to get a better picture of modern day Ireland then the same question being asked in the Catholic forum.

    This isn't the Catholic forum.

I'm a Quaker, but as we'll be staying with the in-laws this year and they're a long distance from the nearest meetinghouse I'll head along to Mass on Christmas morning. It's a nice way to start off the day.

If someone only goes along to a church once a year on Christmas day to enjoy the atmosphere and sing some carols it should be no skin off anyone's nose, frankly.

Reducing it to Catholics attending Mass excludes a lot of other Christians.

As for this Sunday,we wont be going anywhere. We never meet on Christmas Day and I've to cook the bird:D

I can understand that some Christians don't wish to celebrate Christmas but why do you not have just your usual Sunday morning meeting.

Neither. It's all a load of ridiculous nonsense.

    MOD NOTE

I'd remind you are posting in the Christian forum and as such, referring to Christianity as 'a load of ridiculous nonsense' is not appropriate for this forum.

Please raise the standard of your future contributions.

    Thanks for your attention.

We'll be having our Sunday morning service as usual on Christmas Day, but starting earlier so as to give time for those who are travelling afterwards for Christmas Dinner with family or friends.
