Does anyone know anything about the story that is on fb about 63 families being in court in Waterford on Monday facing eviction notices? There is not a shred of other information about it, no-one seems to have any information whether it is even true, but huge numbers are signing a petition which does not appear to even refer to Waterford, its a general petition against homelessness.

There is something on John Hearne's fb page, he mentions the court appearances but his rather garbled information does not really say any more - except that there are people leaving B&Bs because they cannot cook Christmas dinner..?

Only those who ignore the problem get evicted.......no point in moaning now when in most cases you sat back and didn't engage previously.

Surly if 63 families were being evicted at Christmas it would be in the national media.

That's about right Jamie, doesn't fit in with the usual blame everyone, banks, govt, narrative though.

Well yes, that is what I would have thought.

The defendants are appearing before the County Registrar today, many for the first time which will result in an automatic adjournment. The banks often have to use the courts to get people to engage in the arrears process. It is a fact that most of the possession orders granted are for abandoned homes and buy to lets. It is actually difficult to get a possession order on a family home in Ireland, believe it or not and there is free help out there if folks want it. If you want to stay in your house and are facing proceedings, attend court, pay what you can and engage with the bank.
