Left hot water running

So by mistake I left the hot water running and I seemed to have drained the system.
    Found this link below:

    http://www.dlrcoco.ie/en/water-drainage/water/air-locks

Does this work? Will feeding cold water back into the hot water Unlock the airlock? Does it have to be done from the kitchen where the mains comes in or can I do it from the bathroom and in theory fill from the attic tank??

    Any advice welcomed!!!

The bathroom might work but it's only a quarter bar of pressure. Kitchen sink is mains pressure. Anywhere from 1 to 3 bar. It's easier to do from the kitchen sink because it has better pressure.
You might not have great mains pressure if the tank ran dry though

With it being the hot water system would that have an effect on the mains pressure? I have the heating turned off just incase.

I had this before as well - the bathroom tap being fed from the tank in the attic doesn't have enough pressure to force the air back up the hot supply to the tank in the attic (i.e in a loop back up to the attic) - the cold water mains supply in the kitchen is what you need to use, it will be enough to force the air out of the hot supply and water back up to the tank in the attic - and allow water to flow normally from attic to the hot water cylinder into the hot water feed.
