    Good evening everyone,

    I have a 2005 1.4vvti Corolla, 180k on the clock.

Anyway been hearing this noise at engine idle for the last while.

It sounds like its coming from the alternator, but its not a rattle, its a hiss, hiss, hiss. The belt that drives the alternator is in good condition.

Its NOT coming from the fan belt.

To make it easier to describe have a listen, engine is at idle in the recording.

    Any ideas ?

Apologies for having to zip the file, but thats what boards only allows

Remove the belt, start and run and see if the noise goes away.
If it does then its related to the belt.
On the 1.4vvti it could only be the alternator, power steering pump, water pump or tensioner pulleys.
While the belt is off and the engine is stopped spin the various parts and see if you can replicate it.
If you still can't find it, use a long screw driver as a stethoscope and try and find the noise directly with the engine idling.
