Usually sell off weanlings at the back end of the year but had to keep them on this year due to being locked up. (hopefully second test in january goes clear)
No point in loading them off then, but hoping to get them out to grass as soon as the weather picks up and theres a bit of eating for them, that'll be a while yet but from yer own experience
What do ye think is the best month/time of year to sell to get a decent price?

For weanlings around here i think the best time to sell is usually October when farners are out buying. Calve your cows in March and sell when calves are 280-330 kgs, leaving a low maintainence cow to keep over the winter.

    Agree on the 300kg
Find you can get more in September than October & November is to be avoided especially with Bulls around here

Get them out on a bit of picking in early feb and sell them off in march. They will look like they are doing nothing but they'll do well.

The main thing is quality always sells well at any time. When we were locked in the past we found feed them well and they will pay well at the end.

I'd prefer the earlue calf450 kg making 1050 than the 290 calf making 870. What would the cost difference be of a cow calving in Oct/Nov ,Jan/Feb or march/April

In reality I think it depends on your farm and location.
No point round here calving down cows in October when they are often housed from Nov1 to mid April and possibly may, in these marginal areas it makes more sense to calve down Feb/ March and then they are only housed for a short time to mid April turnout.

OP of you weanlings bulls are heavy in January/February (450+kgs) I consider selling ASAP after the test. Theses type of bulls are suitable for finishing before June and may well attract as good a price then as fromna Grass man . Summer grazers are usually lazy so they want cattle that are squeezed.
