Pilots - Use Minimum Power

Yesterday, disembarking from an aircraft at Pier D (100 gates) at DUB, I noticed large signs had been erected on the walls of the pier opposite each stand advising "Pilots - Use Minimum Power" accompanied by a graphic of a person being blown backwards. I'd never noticed these before - if they were there before :)

Are these signs only at Pier D?

Was there an incident that prompted their introduction?

Ah this old chestnut. Pilots intentionally adding huge amounts of thrust on the breakaway so as to purposefully harm ground crews and fling ULDs across the ramp. Solution is lots of yellow signs on walls and a lick of paint on the ground. I understand they are gonna cut into the grass alongside the runway a "flare" sign so we don't bury an aircraft.

Of course it has nothing at all to do with a knee jerk reaction by an airport that is poorly designed and creaking at its very seams.....

ah, pay no heed to basill, he's very sensitive; his aircraft calls him a "retard" just as he is about to land ;-)

I'm sorry but that is comment of the year sneaking in with only a few days left of 2016.

They are on piers 1 & 4 in DUB.
They are to encourage pilots to use minimum power as they start to taxi after pushback.

It decreases the possibility of jet blast, FOD damage or injury.

The signs don't say in which direction, do they? The turboprops should start powerbacking so. 'It's OK ground, I'm at minimum power!':D

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Yesterday, I found out why. An A320, moving off, blew four igloos off a baggage train at Stand 410.

    Hope the Eskimos were OK!:pac:

Seriously though, stand 410 looks very tight for space with the service road due to poor design and use of space. Probably no room for jet blast deflectors so they should possibly stop traffic when there's a pushback from there.

Another reason is when the works for stands 138 etc were being carried out, a RYR aircraft coming in on stand 110L had to wait to be marshalled, even though he was on idle power the fencing and construction equipment were blown down and all over the place, plus there was a couple of constructions workers on site at the time injured by being blown over by jet blast, they were taken to Beaumont from it.

Sounds like the DAA or construction contactor should have used a few of these portable jet blast deflectors to protect the work site.

Never any forward planning or intelligence when it comes to the DAA unfortunately.
