Eir F2000 port forwarding

Apologies if this has been asked 1000 times before. I have searched but didn't find a useful answer.
I just switched to Eir F2000 fibre modem and can't port forward my satellite box for remotely setting timers. I had this working with my previous set up. Now when I try to use remote access I only get the modem set up page. Port open test sites tell me the ports are open but....
The default for my sat box is port 80 which some sites say is reserved for Eir to access my modem remotely. I tried setting my sat box to a different port and forwarding that but get the same results. Port test sites say they are open but I only get the modem itself or a timeout. Presumably there is a setting somewhere that Eir is blocking.
I have seen others thinking of trying other modems but never see any feedback if they worked or not.
Failing this Eir will be loosing a new customer and I'll go back to an ISP that works.
BTW Eir support is of the 'motorbike ashtray' variety, "don't know, don't want to know".
    Any thoughts?

The best advise I can give is bridge it and add a better router giving you full control of your firewall. This way if you ever change provider you'll be keeping everything as is and just modifying the pppoe details

Thanks for that. The snag is I haven't a clue what 'bridging' or 'PPPOE' means:o. A pointer to an idiots guide would be welcome. I changed provider as part of the switch but have a 14 day cooling off period if not happy. My biggest worry just now is if I cancel to go back to my old provider I could get caught between two stools with no service at this time of year.

look at this link, and it is easy to do, have you a router to bridge to?

    https://www.spark.co.nz/help/internet-data/equipment/huawei/hg659-gateway/setup-bridge-mode-huawei-hg659-hg659b/

what sat box are you using?

Hi Swoofer. I don't think the sat box is the issue as I had it working before I switched to Eir. It's a VU+box running OpenATV. I still have the previous, Sky SR102 modem. Is there a difference between standard BB and fibre modems or is it purely in the settings?

The HG659 is reserving 80 and 443 for its management UI. If you forward 8080 on it correctly and set the DVR to listen on that port (For its webUI, not the mobile app API) then you'll get access perfectly.

Alternatively there is an option to kill management on the WAN freeing 80, 443.

Router threw a wobbly when I tried 8080 saying it and a list of others are forbidden. I'm beginning to think, in light of recent events, Eir have gone super paranoid and nobbled everything.

Guess What? Sometimes the obvious answer is the easiest. I simply replaced the F2000 with my old Sky router and fired it up. I can now remotely access my sat box again. And before you ask, yes the Sky box is using Eir fibre at similar speed. Happy days :)

Only have to pay the bills now.

Happy Xmas and thanks to all who responded.

Apologies for resurrecting this old thread but I also had terrible trouble getting port forwarding to work on an Eir F2000 Fibre broadband modem/router.

The F2000 router and Eir get a lot of bad rap because it is a bit counter-intuitive to set up port forwarding on it and Eir refuse to talk about it.

I was bridging the F2000 to a third party router and it turns out that was totally un-necessary.

Some ports are indeed locked out on the F2000 but the important ports ARE NOT locked out. Ports such as 80 (http), 443 (https) and 21 (ssh) can all be forwarded. Attached is a screen shot of the ports that are locked out.

I got it to work and if anyone reads this thread pulling their hair out trying to get port forwarding working on an Eir F2000 please respond here or send me a pm and I will be happy to help you get it working.

Port 21 is ftp, port 22 is ssh.
