    Greetings,

I've read many posts in these forums and I'm really impressed with the amount of technical wizardry displayed. Which makes my schoolboy question almost embarrassing.

Yesterday I bought a Amiko Alien2+. When it boots up, it shows a splash screen with:

    Loading
    VIX4
    E2 Project
    Version 2.2 009-blue+
    www.vix4.com

Is this Spark or Enigma? THe carton it came in has a picture of the little Linux penguin, and there's a line that says Dual Boot - does that suggest there are two OS's on the box?

Whatever it is, I don't like the user interface, recording seems problematic. THe manual is written in pidgin English and doesn't really help so much.

I just need an initial pointer, then I'll head to either the Spark or Enigma threads which are full of info and I should be on the pigs back.

    Thanks for any answers :-)

    Nick

Well, I went to the VIX website and it would appear that I am in fact using Enigma.

The recording issues are that I cannot watch satellite channels while recording one. So, having browsed another thread, I saw a suggestion about checking satellite inputs. Lo and Behold, one of my feeds isn't working. THey only installed the whole combo including dish and cabling yesterday. Bit concerned about quality of installation, because they had trouble getting the Saorview to work. By strange coincidence, the troublesome Saorview and not-working satellite feed are both multiplexed onto a single co-ax. They used a gizmo called a Revex Diplexer (I think). Left a phone message an hour ago, lets see how it goes....

(.. I dealt with a local bricks and mortar shop in support of the local economy. Who's the ****ing eejit now??? I haven't mentioned a different serious problem I had yesterday with them).

So, no need to answer my q above, thanks unless you have any observation/suggestion you'd like to make.

    Thanks
    Nick
